The Rise of Usha Vance
Let me tell you how South Asians are rising in politics.
Note: I don’t hate anyone, these are common observations from the South Asian community that I and others I’ve heard hold. We are not a post-racial dating society — -I will not answer those comments.
She’s a grand strategist.
I hate to admit it, but she’s the golden child of all South Asians in terms of how to move up the ladder. First, it was Vivek Ramaswamy and next it was her.
By the way, both of them are South Indian — -do you recognize the pattern?
South Indians from my perception have a lot more capitalistic and status-oriented goals than North Indians (however it’s a close tie, and I will admit that all South Asians do the same thing). They also have a lot more academic strength and tenacity overall.
Today at the inauguration, I couldn’t help but think that Usha was portraying my long-lost grandmother from the 1900s who went to the UK and back to India to turn into a British woman.
This is how she showed up.
It’s a common pattern to see how Indians have used the white norm, since colonial times, to move up the social mobility ladder. Without putting another Indian down for not doing this — it’s just not the same kind of satisfaction.
