The Desi STEM Triathalon
Men versus women, and the invisible hurdles in front of us.
Is desi culture a culture that celebrates STEM?
I find that we’re a culture that celebrates men in STEM — — let me explain.
You see, a triathlon is an endurance-testing multi-course event.
When it comes to the guys I’ve met in the past, they find it laughable when desi women can’t compete with them when it comes to data analytics or computer science.
Their bravado and ego boost gives them a sense of superiority — — they dont drive or contribute to the programs and charities that uplift women.
I sometimes wonder what trap I started falling into once I was ending senior year in college. The reality of post grad life struck me once I got my diploma in the mail.
Now, I’ve seen why I couldn’t keep up with the pace of my peers — — specifically men.
The chains we’re held back by.
I know several toxic households that have held woman back in all apsects of life. It’s a circumstantial problem that isn’t the same as being a victim — when we’re younger and most likely not with a supportive community — it’s almost as if our life is being strangled, and we’re held by chains.
