The West flocks to the East for how we pay to be royalty.

It’s all a game of money, and it highlights an oblivious, deeply seeded problem — — a colonialist mindset.

As much as I love the jewelry, Diljit Dosanjh's performance, and wonder in the back of my head why this celebration is needed, let’s talk about how problematic the guest list is and how the world views those who are of color.

After all, money can make things happen.

The Background of Inequity

They’re the richest in India, with the Ambanis building an empire from the ground up.

While I don’t care for their history (although it’s a typical rags to riches story, where the father of the Ambanis used to sell clothes on a bicycle and they all lived in one room), I do see how it affects social media and the stereotype of “Crazy Rich Asians.”

More importantly, no one thinks of any wealthy family in India as equal to royalty until there is pomp and circumstance of some sort. The only royalty the West declares as royalty is the British Monarchy. Their white dresses, monochromatic outlook, and mannerisms are considered respectful.

Until there’s jewelry, music, elephants, and opulence for social media optics — royalty isn’t considered anything in the East.
