It’s Normal to Feel Lonely

I’ve lost words for how we normalize the opposite.

Loneliness is common, and in the U.S. all I see are brokenhearted individuals who don’t trust anyone.

Or at least that's what I hear everywhere in New York.

Don’t get me wrong, I love New York, but the isolation is real here. No one trusts anyone outside their door, it’s been so long since I’ve heard neighbors interact with each other.

And some people have forsaken friendships, with a very negative attitude on life. The same people also tend to create more chaos in their lives surprisingly.

Every person I’ve run into says, I’m a loner. Another version I’ve heard is “It’s hard to make friends.”

In general, though, I don’t think people focus on themselves enough to learn who they are. It’s like they're completely in their heads.

Social media has turned this for the worse.

Friendship coaches won’t get any traction in the algorithm but find a page that talks about how friendships don’t exist and it does super well.

Those pages re-iterate the idea of “quality time for yourself,” or “I’m an introvert,” when that’s barely accurate.

What have we done to ourselves today?
