I would argue there are a lot of flaws in this idea, being idealistic is far from the truth. Go where the money or bracket of income is, and marry for love--- people do this all the time without thinking twice. Marrying for money doesn't mean being financially dependent either, marry for money means you move in the social ranks to benefit yourself (i.e networking leads to business). People in dallas and other wealthy areas do it all the time.
